Trivium

The Trivium, meaning "the place where three roads meet" in Latin, is the foundation of a classical education and equips students with the tools for lifelong learning through three stages:

Grammar Stage (K-4th grade)
This stage focuses on acquiring the basic building blocks of knowledge. Students learn the mechanics of language, factual information across subjects, and essential skills like reading, writing, and math.

Logic (5th-8th grade)
Here, students develop critical thinking skills. They learn to analyze information, identify patterns, and question what they hear. Subjects are explored through a lens of cause and effect, encouraging logical reasoning and debate.

Rhetoric (9th-12th grade)
This stage refines the ability to communicate effectively. Students learn to organize their thoughts, construct persuasive arguments, and express themselves clearly through writing and speaking. They delve into complex ideas, analyze different perspectives, and learn to present their findings with eloquence.

Essentially, the Trivium teaches students how to learn by building upon each other:

Grammar provides the tools:
Students gather information and acquire the foundational knowledge necessary for further exploration.

Logic equips them to analyze:
They develop the ability to think critically, identify strengths and weaknesses in arguments, and form their own well-reasoned conclusions.

Rhetoric empowers them to communicate:
Students can effectively express their understanding, share their knowledge, and persuade others.

This approach fosters a love of learning that transcends memorization of facts. Students become active participants in their education, capable of asking insightful questions, engaging in thoughtful discussions, and independently navigating new areas of knowledge.

English Language Arts

Students build early literacy through phonics, vocabulary, grammar, and writing. Lessons emphasize clarity, structure, and language development—equipping students with the tools to read fluently and express ideas effectively.

Math

Math instruction builds number sense, patterns, and problem-solving through structured lessons and hands-on practice. Students develop fluency and logical thinking as they master foundational concepts.

Science

Science instruction supports curiosity through observation and discussion. Students explore the natural world, practice describing what they see, and begin forming early scientific explanations.

Social Studies

Students learn about people, places, and events through stories, visuals, and classroom conversation. Lessons connect students’ own experiences to broader ideas about community and history.

Character Education

Character development is part of the school’s daily rhythm. Through the Character Counts!® curriculum, students learn to practice traits like respect, perseverance, and responsibility in academic and social settings.

How We ACCELerate Learning

Our school is built on a strong foundation of high expectations for academic achievement for all students. Within our classical framework, we implement the ACCEL Instructional Model (AIM) which focuses on four key components to achieve strong academic results:

Individualized Instruction

Students participate in a variety of learning activities each day that individualize instruction for each subject area. Students receive whole-class instruction, small group instruction, and individual instruction with teachers, technology and other curricular tools.

Properly Certified & Licensed Teachers

Our teachers meet the requirements set forth by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA): Bachelor’s degree, grade-level teaching license/certificate & ability to demonstrate subject-area expertise. Our teachers are supported by trainers and participate in continuous, research-based professional development. Our teachers are accountable for student learning and rewarded for high-quality performance.

More Time on Task

Our students receive double the instruction in ELA and Math to provide a strong foundation for all learning. Beginning with full-day Kindergarten, our school also follows a longer school day and school year than many other schools.

Short Cycle Assessments & Data-Driven Instruction

Student knowledge of academic standards is assessed formally and informally in short cycles by each teacher. Our teachers adjust class-level and individual instruction based on student performance in these frequent intervals.
